Summer Reading 2022

Summer is almost here! Megan and Matt are so excited to be able to put on a more traditional set of events for children and families than we could the last two summers. Don’t forget teens and adults can participate in the summer reading program too! Please let us know if you have any questions or need more information.

Summer reading program

Monday, June 6 – Monday, August 8
Read, earn, and win! Children, teens, and adults register to read this summer with our library reading app Beanstack. Track your minutes on your phone, tablet, or online, collect virtual badges as you go, and earn prizes all summer long! Pre-registration begins Monday, May 16. Paper logs available upon request.

Summer regular story times

Story Time in the Park
Wednesdays, June 8 – August 10, 9:30 AM, Central Park Bandshell
Inclement weather story times on Thursdays at 9:30 AM. No regular story time on Wednesday, June 29th – instead, join us in welcoming Nothando Zulu, Master Storyteller. Check the library’s Facebook page for changes, updates and weather announcements.

Summer story walks

Wednesdays, June 8 – August 24, All Day, Bay Point Park
Each Wednesday, head to the park and enjoy a new story on foot, in a stroller, or by bike! Inclement weather days on Thursdays.

Pre-registration required for Ojibwe Shoulder Bag Making with ArtReach, but is not required for any other summer events.

Writer’s camp for middle grades

Pre-registration required. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday, June 13, 14, 15, & 17, 2:00 – 3:15 PM; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday, June 20, 21, 22, & 23, 2:00 – 3:15 PM. Featuring special guest author, Minnesota Book Award winner Jacqueline West on Friday, June 17! For writers of creative fiction going into grades 5-7 in the fall. Limit of 12 writers. All writers will receive a writer’s pack and a camp t-shirt at the end of summer!

Writer’s camp for high school

Pre-registration required. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 2:00 – 3:15 PM
July 11, 13, 14, 18, 20, 21, 25, 27,& 28. For writers of creative fiction going into grades 8-12 in the fall. Limit of 12 writers. All writers will receive a writer’s camp t-shirt at the end of summer!

Teen volunteer groups

We need your help to make summer a success! Teens going in to grades 6 and up can join our summer volunteer crew. Volunteers help library staff with summer reading events, and can sign up for one, a few, or all of the programs! Volunteer sign up available beginning Monday, May 16.
