Reading Challenges

Children’s, Teen, and Adult Summer Reading with Beanstack

Monday, June 29 – Monday, August 24

Log your reading this summer online or in-app with Beanstack!  Pre-registration begins Friday, June 19.  Here’s how it works:

  1. Download the Beanstack app to your smartphone or tablet, or head over to
  2. Register yourself and any family members who will be reading with you for Beanstack.  Teens may choose to register with a parent or guardian or create their own account.  If you’re signing up a day care group, give us a call at (651) 385-3645.
  3. Sign up for your summer reading program!  Children’s summer reading is for children from birth to those going into 6th grade in the fall.  Teen summer reading is for teens going in to grades 6 – 12.  And adult summer reading is for folks 18 and up!  Kids going into 6th grade may choose between children’s or teen summer reading.
  4. Log your reading!  Families can log time and titles by individual, or as a group.  Please note: Although you will be able to begin logging right away, only time and titles read beginning Monday, June 29 will count toward the challenge.
  5. Collect badges and earn prizes as you read!  Prizes include a Red Wing Public Library reusable book tote, summer treat coupons, free books, and tickets to themed raffle baskets for the kids and local gift cards for teens and adults.  To complete the full program, children will log 30 reading hours this summer, earning a series of prizes along the way.  Children who read all 30 hours this summer will earn 16 raffle tickets to enter into a drawing for 16 different raffle baskets.  Teens and adults will have an opportunity to log up to 300 hours of reading time, earning five raffle tickets for each five hours read that will go into drawings for local gift cards.

Many thanks to Randy’s, Rivertown Games, Papa Murphy’s, McDonald’s, and Sturdiwheat for their generous donations this summer!
