Red Wing Public Library guidelines for use

Please enjoy the library and respect its use by others. While at the library, it is important to follow these policies and others posted in the library for use of services and equipment. If you have suggestions for improving our services or collections, use the Suggestion Box in the East Avenue Lobby. If you have immediate concerns or need assistance, please speak with a staff person directly. As a courtesy to others please follow these guidelines:


  • Expect friendly, timely and professional services
  • Expect the library to maintain a collection which reflects community interests
  • Expect complaints/problems to be resolved as soon as possible
  • Expect the staff to make the library system work for you
  • Expect a clean, safe and reasonably quiet building
  • Ask a staff person for assistance
  • Use Reference and Information Services for children and adults
  • Check out circulating books or other materials
  • Suggest new materials and services
  • Take bulletin board postings to the service desk
  • Understand that patrons who are children have the same rights and responsibilities as adult patrons
  • Enjoy all the library has to offer – the collection, building and people you meet

Please do not:

  • Engage in noisy behavior and activities that disturb others – including prolonged sleeping and prolonged use of cell phones
  • Block entrances and exits throughout the building or block seating in the bus shelter
  • Smoke in the building or bus shelter
  • Eat or drink in the library – beverage containers permitted only if they remain closed
  • Bring bicycles into the building
  • Use scooters, skateboards or roller blades in the building – keep them with you at all times and out of the path of others
  • Enter the building without wearing shirt and shoes
  • Leave children under age 5 unattended by a responsible person
  • Sell, solicit, panhandle or loiter on library premises
  • Bring animals other than trained service dogs on library premises
  • Use abusive language or engage in abusive behavior
  • Engage in any illegal activity or behavior
  • Enter the building with a dangerous weapon in your possession
  • Intentionally vandalize or damage library property

Individuals violating any of these policies, after being warned, may be restricted from access to the library services and facilities. Police may be called for assistance.
